Welcome to my coding portfolio. Here is where I will keep all of my coding work and information to document my journey from freelance writer to programmer.

In May of 2022, I signed for the Web Developer Bootcamp by Colt Steele. I first remember learning about coding back when I was 10 or 11 years old. It was the late 80s/early 90s and my dad had bought a coding book to use on our computer. I thought it was fascinating to see that I, a young girl could potentially make a video game by coding it. I never was able to finish a game, but that got me interested.

When I was in the 8th grade, I took a coding class and learned how to make very basic snake-like games.
You would think that after that I would decide to study computers once I went to college but in the end I choose Sociology. While I loved the classes, this wasn’t the best major to have to find a good job after graduation. In the end, I worked a few jobs that didn’t have anything to do with my degree until I became a mother in 2004.

After that, I started working from home. I started with an eBay store, and after that, I started a blog. That lead to a freelance career in writing and editing which is where I am today. Over the last 13 years of blogging, I have had to use HTML, and was very aware of CSS and Javascript, although I really didn’t want to mess with those two on my blog.

After I started the course, I started learning how to do many of the things WordPress allowed me to do but this time, using code. I wasn’t just picking a font from a dropdown menu, or inserting a photo by clicking on “image”. I now knew how to code that myself. This was opening up my world.
